The Rotary Club of Leesburg welcomes Rachel Gottlieb.  Rachel is a former winner of the Perry Winston Rotary Club of Leesburg Scholarship Fund and Heritage High School Interact president.   Jake Jacobson presided over her induction and was the first to welcome her to the club. Her mother pinned Rachel with the Rotary emblem, while Jake and her sponsor Bob Noe watch proudly. Rachel received a standing ovation from the club members.

Rachel received her bachelor and master's degrees from UVA, and returned to Leesburg as an educator, teaching at Heritage High School.

In addition to the induction, five club members were recognized for achieving their next Paul Harris Fellow levels (each level valued at $1,000) – Janice Fristad,  Chris Fristad and Mike Casey at the third level, Carolyn Casey at the fourth level and Dee Jonas at the sixth level.  Chuck Reavis presented their pins and spoke to the outstanding work the Rotary International Foundation does both internationally and in our community – our Club currently receives Rotary International Foundation support for the Diabetes Prevention project we are engaged in with The Loudoun Free Clinic.

Guests at the meeting included Rachel’s mother, Brenda and Valerie Beaudoin, who will be inducted as a new member next week.

John Marsh called Club Members’ attention to the Washington Post’s primary editorial of the day that focused on the efforts to eradicate polio and specifically mentioned Rotary International as a key player in moving quite successfully toward that goal.

Our speaker for the evening, Denise Shreeve, told us more than most of us ever knew about native bees and the tremendous contribution they make to our surroundings and our lives.  With photos, bee houses and answers to what was probably the most extensive set of questions Club Members have presented this year, Ms. Shreeve was very informative and a delight to hear for the evening.  Thanks to Bob Noe and the Program Committee for bringing her to us.

Yours in Rotary Service

Mike
